My Interview with John Singson, Entrepreneur & Real Estate Developer
15 March 2019 by Stephen Dalton
John Singson is a real estate developer, investor, and realtor. He does real estate sales and service with the five-star Real Estate operation in West Hollywood, California.
He’s also the founder of Singson Real Estate. John Singson currently focuses on buying rental properties, making renovations, and renting them out to create real wealth as Warren Buffet, his inspiration and mentor did.
The same as 99% of all billionaires have real estate assets as part of their investment portfolio.
Stephen: I understand that your grandfather, Chavit Singson is a real estate developer, mayor, governor, and all-around political kingpin in the Philippines. We also know that your father is quite successful in his own right. I read that he started with ten or eleven busses and now operates the Partas Transportation Corp nationwide with nearly 400 busses. Is there anything else you would like to add or clarify for our audience?
John Singson: It is true that my grandfather is a very wealthy and influential man in the Philippines, and my father, Richard Singson, brought Partas up from just a few busses as you say. Partas is a major bus transportation company in the Philippines, moving passengers and cargo 24 hours a day, seven days a week between the National Capital Region (Metro Manila) and many of the provinces. It’s basically the “Greyhound of the Philippines.”
One of the things I heard Mr. Buffett say when I was younger that really enamored me to hard work is, “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” My grandfather and father have planted a lot of trees, but I choose not to just sit in the shade. It’s time I “planted some trees.”
My grandfather brought Miss Universe to the Philippines for the first time. He spent $15 million or more of his own money to do so. He has a large estate in Vigan with many animals such as black panthers, lions, giraffes, tigers, and many other exotic animals.
Stephen: Mr. Singson, could you give us a little more family background. I’m sure our readers would be fascinated to know how your grandfather and then your father became so successful, in two very different areas, especially in the Philippines, a country not known for great prosperity.
John Singson: Thank you, Mr. Dalton, I’m glad you asked. I think it is important to point out; I am very proud of both my grandfather and father and their various accomplishments. However, I never wanted to base my life’s achievements on their successes. I want to focus on self-development, growth, and improvement. Whatever my family has, I don’t look at it as I’m a part of that. I create my own everything. Me, myself, and I can only help me when it comes to the end of the road.
Stephen: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting, what would it be?
John Singson: Do your best at everything you do, and the money will follow. My family and I have always believed in service before self. One day, I hope to be a millionaire, but only if I can bring my friends and family with me. I want to create real happiness for the families in need of real estate services and make them happy with our elite service. That’s how I want to get rich.
Stephen: What motivates you?
John Singson: What motivates me is knowing that people need my help, people will always need help with real estate, and everything in this world is real estate. And, I never want to miss an opportunity to help, because, in order to gain, we have to help first.
What I like to say is, if you want to be a millionaire, you have to help a million people. I want people to see my picture on the internet or news and say, he helped us get into a new home when we thought it was impossible.
Stephen: What is unique about your approach to real estate?
John Singson: I’d love to keep flipping houses, making dreams into reality for others. One of my main goals also is to keep filling up my portfolio and buy more and more apartment units. Then, rent those out to families that can’t afford to buy yet, which pays for daily expenses. I believe in using other people’s money to gain wealth — meaning to say; I love going to sleep knowing that my renters/ tenants are paying me every month, and they feel safe in one of my rentals.
Stephen: How many hours a day do you work on average?
John Singson: I work 24/7, I mean we all need sleep, but I do get calls from investors around the world. My clock is always rotating; it’s always on world time. I have no set time zone. I know that if I limit myself on a specific daily schedule, I will restrict self-improvement, and that would affect my business.
Stephen: Can you describe/outline your typical day?
John Singson: I don’t have a typical day; my days are just like the weather; it changes all the time. Being a real entrepreneur has rituals of daily practice as far as motivation, but if we are talking about a typical day, it is tough to describe because every minute of my life is different.
Stephen: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be successful in real estate?
John Singson: Well, number one is you have to figure out if you want to be in this industry; being aware and knowing yourself is vital. Number two, you have to surround yourself with people who are more successful than you, the last thing is, always do what you say, because determination always leads to success, my goal is not only that all my outcomes become incomes, but to inspire the people around me and embrace the people that might misunderstand me.
Stephen: What is a Warren Buffett quote about real estate that sticks in your mind and anyone could use?
John Singson: “Like it such that you’d be content to own it in the absence of any market.” I like to add my own little twist; every property should have the potential to be your family’s home. Why would you buy it if you wouldn’t live in it?
Stephen: Thanks for your time with us today, Mr. Singson. It has been a pleasure getting to know you.
John Singson: It’s John, please. I want to add one last original tidbit from John, my mantra if you will, before we close, “Do your best at everything you do. It doesn’t matter what you do; it matters how you do it. I’d rather be a loyal janitor than a scamming millionaire.”
Please let everyone know if they are looking for property in California, they should call me, email me, or send me a contact request on my new website.
We can make your dreams into reality. Keep in mind; we can also do private money loans for real estate investment properties.
